Interview of the Mayor: Alejandro Morant
- El Canelobre: How did the economic recession affect the Moors and Christians Festival in Busot? -Alejandro Morant: In general not that much. Its true that we have suffered some casualties, because of economic matters, and the number of participants has been reduce. But all the participants who decided to go ahead they'll do so with the same splendor, hope and colour as every year.
- E.C.: Is there anything new this year? -A.M.: We can't have something new every year, we would like that!!. But in the last few years we made an effort to improve the Festival in many aspects. It is difficult to add innovations but, for example, we improved the Town decorations, and we have aquired fabric flags that decorate the parade.
But I will say in advance that the next year we're going to have more innovations.
- E.C.: How have the preparations for the festivities been? -A.M.: Very well, and as something new (as you ask before), I will say that for the first time in the history of this Festival we celebrated the Captains Presentation in the Casa de la Cultura instead Cuevas de Canelobre. The reason is because the Caves were flooded.
I think that this change is liked by a lot to the neighbors.
- E.C.: Which moment of the festivities would you recomended to someone who isn't familiar with it? -A.M.: That's difficult. It depends on what they're looking for. If you just came to visit for one day the best thing to see is the Big Parade Saturday afternoon, but the participants or the people who visit us enjoy the "Embajadas" that represent the talking battles between both sides.
- E.C.: How is your personal relationship with this Festival? -A.M.: I've participated in this Festival 35 years of my life. And I have played diferents rolls in the festival. I have something clear, before being a mayor I'm a participant in this festival.
During these days, I enjoy the festival like anyone else and I hope that my neighbors forgive me but I think politicians must be this way, there is time for everything.
- E.C.: Wich way lives a Mayor this festival? -A.M.: It is difficult, because it depends on who's watching you, they think one thing or another, but during these days, except the big parade which has a little bit of protocol, the rest is easy because Im a participant more than a Mayor.
- E.C.: What wish did you ask for this Festival? -A.M.: First of all, that everything goes well, that we don't have any accidents, that we have good weather, and that the dreams of all the participants, especially the captains and commision be accomplished. |
